Not long after moving to the U.S. from her native Brazil in 2005, Thais began her decade-long tenure at Somerville Community Corporation, where she led the visioning, development, and implementation of Asset Building programming for low- and moderate-income residents of Somerville as a means to expand and engage the organization's membership. The programs Thais developed between 2006 and 2017 continue to thrive today. Before coming to the United States, Thais taught English as a Foreign Language and worked as a translator/interpreter for several government agencies and NGOs. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, and Spanish.

In 2017, Thais decided to dedicate more time to her photography business, established in 2015. She joined the Chamber in 2018 as a Founding Member and as Membership Director in January of 2020, and was promoted to Deputy Director in March of 2023. Over the last few years, she has led the growth of membership from 98 at the start of 2020 to 515 — and counting! — in November 2023.
